Parents and Students,

Welcome to the Ooltewah Middle School website! We are excited about the upcoming 2017-2018 school year and hope you are able to navigate this site with ease. Information will be added quite frequently, so I strongly encourage you to view the links weekly.

 I wanted to take this opportunity to outline some important information regarding the upcoming year.


Rising sixth grade students are invited to "Owl Orientation" on Sunday, August 6th from 2:00-5:00 PM. A letter will be mailed this summer with homeroom and team information, so when you come in on the 6th you will be directed to the student's homeroom.  This will allow our families the opportunity to complete registration paperwork, pick up student schedules, visit classrooms, ask questions and receive a locker.

This would be a great time to drop off school supplies, so that your child does not have to worry about doing so the first day of school. You may also pay fees during this time. School fees are $50.00 and checks can be addressed to Ooltewah Middle School. This fee includes the school, novel and science fee.  

If you are unable to attend that afternoon, you will need to come to Ooltewah Middle School Monday, August 7th, 2017 between the hours of 8:00-11:00 AM to complete the required forms for registration. Tours will not be made available at this time as teachers will be in training and /or working in classrooms. Students new to Ooltewah Middle School may also register during this aforementioned time and date.

Returning seventh and eighth grade students will be allowed to view their schedules online once the portal opens. A message will be posted on Facebook. We will send a school message phone call if we open up Powerschool before August 4th.

Students may bring supplies the first day of school or during that first full week of school. Suggestion-send a few supplies each day so students can easily navigate the busses and hallways. 

Mark you calendar-Open House for all students will be held on August 29th from 6:00-7:30 PM.

All students will receive an updated schedule the first day of school. Please note that minor changes may occur. Upon arrival, sixth grade students will report to the school theater, while seventh and eighth grade students will report to the gym.

Car riders will need to be dropped off in front of the school. Busses unload by the gym.



Our school fee for the 2017-2018 school year will be $50.00. These fees are requested to help ensure teachers and students have availability to resources and supplies that will help strengthen classroom instruction. It is acceptable to pay $25.00 this semester and $25.00 next semester if this helps with your financial planning. Other classes may request additional fees. (computer lab, chorus, art, band and athletic fees, etc.)

Further, we have streamlined our supply lists. We are asking for essential supplies only and your help is appreciated. Summer reading expectations have been provided and can also be found on our school website under forms.



Response to intervention (RTI2/RTI3) and exceptional education direct service classes will occur during the related arts (RA) rotation, if this is part of your child's programming. Additional RA classes this year include: Band/flags, Chorus, Bible History, Health, Physical Education, German, Spanish, Art, Computer Technology, and Creative Dramatics/Journalism.


All students are assigned a team. This team will be comprised of 4-5 teachers and students will rotate through the following classes daily: Math, English/Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.

Team names are listed below:

Cracker Jacks-6th grade

Night Owls-6th grade

Crusaders-6th grade

Talons-7th grade

Mountain Climbers-7th grade

Voyagers-8th grade

Silverwings-8th grade


School Hours:

7:15 AM-2:15 PM  Breakfast is served until 7:05, students may only enter the building after 6:45 AM. Breakfast will be served the first day of school. Students should be picked up by 2:45.



Please check the district website for information you need regarding transportation. (bus numbers, departure/arrival times, or if you need to complete a stop request, etc.)

I will work to keep you apprised of any pertinent information and events throughout the year. I would encourage you to "like" our school facebook page; communication will occur quite frequently via this tool. Further, agendas will be assigned to each student, please review for additional school information. Students must have an agenda on them at all times.
